Storybook Land Theatre (SBLT) is a community tradition and favorite since 1989. The community is treated to performances every summer in the unique setting of Storybook Land Castle at Aberdeen’s Wylie Park. The program is a partnership between Aberdeen Community Theatre (ACT) and the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. SBLT usually performs seven shows in seven weeks, from June through August. The season cast is comprised of five to six paid actors, ages 16 and older, under the direction of Claire Vetter, Young People's Theatre artistic director.
Area youth join the regular SBLT cast for two camps at the beginning of each season:
Discover Storybook Land Theatre camp meets for two weeks in early June to rehearse and perform a show with a large cast – up to 30 actors.
Middle School Storybook Theatre camp meets the week after, with only five rehearsals before performing the following week. Cast size is smaller, about 15. Many of these young actors aspire to someday be part of the regular SBLT cast. This camp gives them a taste of a typical rehearsal and performance schedule.
SBLT also writes and performs original scripts. Auditions for the SBLT season cast are held in late April or early May.
